This talk will overview irTMS basics including discussion of the main uses of the technique which include (1) stimulation, (2) inducement of a transient, highly focal lesion, and (3) treatment potential of TMS. Next, two experiments in speech will be discussed in which the TMS lesion method was used to quantify the neural systems involved in (1) normal speech production and (2) explain speech deterioration in Parkinson Disease with Subthalamic Nucleus Deep Brain Stimulation.
